VOLUNTEERING

Spending time with elders is a great way to spend time.

Since 2015, I have been a volunteer for SAGE, which champions service and advocacy for LGBTQ elders. I am part of the Friendly Visitor program, which pairs volunteer with elders living at home and in need of company. My current “friend at home” is Gordon, who lives on the upper west side, and we’ve become good friends over the years. Here are a few photos from our travels. It’s one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had the privilege to have, one full of companionship, discovery and reciprocity.
